After a wild ride in the news industry, I traded in the microphone for a tool belt. I used to tell people’s stories on the news. Now, I tell people’s stories through designing their homes.
Hi! My name is Kristen Hamilton and I’m from Barrington, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. I studied journalism at Texas Christian University and was a member of the TCU Cheer team. My first job out of college was at ABC 25 in Waco, Texas, as co-host for the lifestyle show Central Texas Living. From Waco, I moved to Fort Myers, Florida, to be the exclusive feature reporter on ABC 7’s top-rated morning news show, More In The Morning, where I covered all of the best experiences Southwest Florida has to offer.
I’ve wrangled gators, pulled 5 G’s in an L-39 fighter jet, gone for a ride in the worlds fastest powerboat, hunted for the elusive ‘big foot’ and played basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters. I’ve worked with countless restaurant owners, tour guides, world-record holders, business owners, people in the community and from all over the world. After hearing countless stories and experiencing them firsthand, I’m convinced we all have pretty cool stories to tell.
When I wasn’t on the news, I was working on renovation projects. I would work from 4am-12pm, workout, and then work on my projects from 2-6pm. I went to bed by 7pm so I could wake up at 3 and do it all over again.
From a young age, I’ve always loved designing. I’d re-arrange my bedroom at home at least once a month. I loved the challenge and exercising my creative mind. I enjoyed reorganizing and cleaning out closets in my free time. I’ve always been a planner and detail-oriented, making to-do lists sine the age of three.
At age 16, I found out I loved more than just the furniture aspect of design. I developed a passion for the renovation process when I helped my dad restore his 1886 farmhouse in Barrington, IL. Uncovering original pine flooring beneath 3 layers of carpet and laminate was way more exciting than I had expected. We raised the ceiling by a foot, restored the original doorbell, repainted the entire house, restored the old pulley windows, pocket doors, revived the original trim and more. I loved being hands-on with every little detail and seeing how it all came together, resulting in an incredible transformation.
My passion stems from my child-like love for design and renovations. It’s where I find purpose in my work, and it’s why I’m inspired to help others design the home or room of their dreams, too. It’s a ton of work, but I couldn’t be happier. I know I was born to do this.
As a journalist, I developed a huge appreciation for storytelling. As a designer, I’ve taken storytelling a step further, bringing those stories to life in a tangible way. Your home can tell your story for you. Whether it’s something from your hometown, a favorite trip, or part of a special memory. By incorporating this into your space, it’s an expression of who you are, what you love, and what you’re all about. That’s how you make a space memorable, and that’s why I love what I do.
